Wow. I just stumbled across this message board and cannot believe the memories it has brought back. I was in the Woodsmen in the mid to late 80's. I don't recall exactly when, but I do see Neal Gregory posting here and I was there when he was (at least partly). He said 85 - 87 in his post. I was there either right after, or when the runaway Tonkawas got hit by the train. I have many fond memories of this place and the people there. The counselors at the time were Ann, Dale Lawless, and Dan Donahue, with Dale as the teacher. This place changed my life, and definitely for the better. When I left the camp, I was still headed in the wrong direction, but later many of the lessons learned in camp finally stuck and I'm now doing well. I remember the river trips, Neal stealing the tractor, someone (maybe Neal here too, haha) stealing Ann's VW Rabbit, constantly running away and going to Lufkin. Travis hanging himself at the latrine in the Woodsman camp  , the fights, the circle ups...just everything. I've often wondered about the people in the group, counselors and kids, and how they ended up. Good to see Neal doing well. Anyone remember me? Anyone know what happened to Mike Parkinson? Or Alex, Winfred, Mike Wichter, Bill, or anyone else from the same group and era?

im bill hardin i was tonkawa camper from 1980 to 1982 i was a surviver of the flash flood river trip in 1982 that killed many tonkawas and one councelor harold harvey i hope someone out there remembers me

Wow i'm really amazed that i found this site! I was in Hope Center in '99! I was really sad when I heard they closed the place down I always told myself when i grew up I wanted to go back but when that time came that's when i found out it no longer existed I started in the Agapes group when I first got there but a few days later they combined 2 groups & made it the Auroras! I remember lots of counselors and campers but there are some that i would really like to get in touch with but i can't remember last names! I do remember 2 campers that i was really close with Krystal Long & Callie! I've only found 1 camper over all these yrs & that was Crystal Chavis! Anyway I would love 2 hear from any of the campers of counselors that were there when I was in Hope Center!

Wow! I can't believe I stumbled onto this....talk about memories! Jeff & Karla were running the asylum when I was there. Jana & Debbie & Zach were teaching. I was a Weushi. Counselors were: Nancy, Johnnie, Susan (Su-Su). Mom Martha was the BEST! Fellow campers in my group were: Mary Kemp, Connie Reynolds, Sondra Navarre, Rhonda Goodwin, Liz Nelson, Monique Bell, Lynn Charpentier. I was there in the early '80s. Good times & memories. Learned a lot and would love to hear from some old timers like me!

I was a woodsmen in 2000 I did 6 months there. Just trying to find old friends and counselors. Like Mike Telfer LOL I got a autograph ball from him. He told me it would make money one day. I still have it as a matter of fact my son plays wih it. Also Sharron Strickland, Tom big buff short guy. I forgot whats it called when the restrain you and throw you on the ground. That use to make me so mad or the 8 hr circle ups standing up cuz people wouldnt talk out there problems. Lol good times. LETS ALL GO AWOL LOL

Had a chance to look at some of the posts. Wow. I do remember some great times. At the time I was there, not so great. Now that i am grown with my own kids, i am thankful for the time i had there. I have gotten in touch with some of the girls from my group and would love to hear from any others out there. Jeff send me an e mail, would love to catch up.
